My Signature Scents

I've never been overly adventurous with fragrances - once I moved past the teenage phase of celebrity scents, I found a perfume I loved and stuck with it. I was always liked to hear the compliment: 'you smell like you!' Recently, I've grown more confident and added a 'stronger' perfume that I can wear on special occasions and nights out. I still feel a bit weird when I put it on, because I'm so used to wearing the other!

Flora by Gucci - daytime/everyday ($90 30ml)

Flora by Gucci is a lovely floral scent with hints of citrus to spice things up. I like to use the Eau de Toilette because it's a bit less intense than the Parfum. The Flora range now features a few different variants including the Eau Fraiche, Garden Tuberose, Garden Gardenia, and Garden Magnolia. These are part of the Gucci Garden Collection based on the three flowers 'of the Flora pattern'. I haven't tried these, mostly because I love the original so much.
Flora by Gucci is perfect for those who favour flora scents!

Miracle by Lancome - special occasions/evening ($130 50ml)

I was originally given this as a sample from a friend who went crazy in a Duty Free somewhere, and I absolutely loved it. I would describe this as 'flora with hints of spice'. Lancome describes it as "bursting with the zest of brilliant Freesia, peppered with Ginger and serenely balanced by warm Amber notes." It's a bit stronger than the Gucci - both the scent and the fact that it's an EDP, so I feel more comfortable wearing it at night - it would feel a bit too much to wear everyday.
This is perfect for those who like a bit more of spiced scent coming through the floral.

Let me know what your signature scents are! Or are you a 'scent to match the mood' person?

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

My skin has turned quite dry recently, and my usual Estēe Lauder Double Wear was becoming patchy and making my face look tight. I was on the hunt for a cheaper foundation that was more suited to normal/dry skin types, and I'd heard a lot of good things about Rimmel Match Perfection and decided to give it a shot.

I bought it in the shade 081 fair ivory which is neutral toned. Normally I have quite cool undertones, but the pinker shades were way to pink for me.
The foundation applies smoothly, even on my dry patchy skin (prepped with moisturiser of course), leaving a nice natural to dewy finish. I would say the coverage is light to medium - enough to cover some redness but not enough to provide cover for blemishes. Being quite blemish-prone at the moment, I had to use more concealer than I usually would to get the flawless finish I was after. This foundation stays put better than other dewy finish foundations I've used. I only used powder on the areas with concealer and just left the rest be, and it lasted a good 6 hours without touch ups.

I do have a few reservations with the Match Perfection. The first one is the scent. It has an odd scent that I find off-putting, but not enough to deter me from using it entirely. Secondly, even though it has a pump, after a week the top of my bottle was leaking foundation! I'm not sure if it's just my bottle with a dodgy seal, but it's quite frustrating! Lastly, the fact that it isn't oil-free makes me a bit nervous about moving to the foundation full time since I'm quite prone to breakouts.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation: $17.95 Priceline

Any recommendations for oil-free natural/dewy finish foundations?

Bioderma H20

Every beauty blogger/vlogger/anyone remotely interested in beauty has heard of the Bioderma H20 line. I thought it was only right that I add my two cents.

Crealine H20

I originally started with the oily skin version of this - the Sebium H20, however I started on roaccutane and my skin became sensitive and dry. I had to be very careful what I put on my face in its fragile state, so I decided to switch to the Crealine H20. The Crealine line is catered towards people with sensitive and intolerant skin. It didn't irritate my skin at all (the sebium didn't either but it was too drying) and actually feels lovely and refreshing on my occasionally inflamed skin. I use this mostly as a make up remover - it removes every bit of make up including waterproof eye make up, with no trouble at all. I'm always a bit sceptical when products receive so much hype, but this truly goes above and beyond. Yes the price is a bit of a downside, but you really do get what you pay for!

Sebium H20

This product is the oily skin version of the famous crealine H20, and it works just as well. The Sebium line is formulated specifically for combination to oily skins. It is the best make up remover - it literally melts the make up away, and doesn't leave a trace! At the same time, it removes excess oil without over drying or irritating the skin. The only downside is the price in Australia, though I see this as an excuse to visit France more regularly!

Bioderma H20 Crealine and Sebium 250ml: $29.95 from Adore Beauty

The Bioderma H2O line is a must in everyone's bathroom. There is a version to suit everyone's skin type, and trust me you will be thankful you made the investment!

Get the Look: Rooney Mara

One of fashion's night of nights - The Met Gala - was held on the 6th of May. This year the theme was "PUNK: Chaos to Couture." After spending a several highly enjoyable hours trawling through the fashions, I've noted a few developing trends like the dark bold lip and heavy contouring, and finally decided on my favourite look of the night - Rooney Mara. I've done a little get-the-look post recreating her Met Gala look.

Rooney wore a lace fishtail plunge neck dress by Givenchy couture which I absolutely adore. It's the perfect blend of elegance and edginess. The 'punk' element of Rooney's look is her makeup. She was one of several celebrities to wear the bold purple/red/black lip and highly defined eyebrows. She counterbalances this with subtle highlights and contouring.

Aqua Kubrick Maxi Dress - $294 ASOS

Rooney wore a lace plunge neck Givenchy couture dress designed by Riccardo Tisci. You can get a similar look with the plunge neck element from ASOS.

Sleek Face Contour Kit - $8.49 Sleek Makeup

Get Rooney's super defined cheek bones by applying a dark contour colour to the hollow of your cheeks, following the line from your ear to your lips. The Sleek face contour kit comes with a handy highlighter too.

Illamasqua Gleam Cream - $28 Myer

Rooney's look included subtle highlights to balance out the boldness of the lips and brows. Apply highlighter to the tops of your cheek bones, under the eyebrows, and down the centre of the nose.

MAC Cyber lipstick - $36 MAC

The dark lips are the centrepiece of the look. Go for an intense blackish-purple like MAC Cyber.

Rimmel Eyebrow pencil in Black Brown - $8.50 Priceline

Finish off the look with super defined brows. Dark brows contrast amazingly with Rooney's pure pale skin.

What was your favourite look from the Met Gala?

Olive Oil Hair Mask

My hair was not looking so hot last weekend and there were no hair masks in the cupboard, and I didn't fancy going to the shops. So I did the next best thing and made a hair mask using olive oil and honey. Simple, gets results, and it's free!

1. Pour 5 tbsp of olive oil (any will do, but extra virgin is extra nice) into a little bowl

2. Add 1 tbsp of honey to the oil

3. Pop in the microwave for 30-40 seconds

4. Massage into hair, making sure all your hair is coated

5. Wrap head with gladwrap/plastic shower cap, and leave in for at least an hour

6. Wash out with shampoo and follow with conditioner. You may need to double wash!

Hello shiny hair!

I'd love to hear some of your DIY beauty routines :)

April Favourites!

It's favourites time again - I can't believe April is gone already! I haven't been able to branch out and try many new things makeup/skincare wise this month, as my skin has become very sensitive - best to stick to what I know for now. But I always have favourites and here's what I loved in April:

NARS Douceur blush

This is my absolute favourite blush at the moment. It looks quite brown and neutral in the pan, but when I put it on, it becomes a soft muted pink.

Hamilton Sunscreen

I wear this everyday under my makeup. My skin is more sensitive to the sun at the moment, so it makes wearing sunscreen all the more necessary. This is lightweight and sets matte too.

OPI Red

I got this at a fashion show, and I absolutely love it. Just a simple classic red that can never go wrong.

Clinique All About Eyes

This eye cream is amazing. I pop some of this on in the morning and it de-puffs and reduces my terrible dark circles, giving the illusion that I actually did get 8 hours sleep!

Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer

My everyday primer, improves the appearance of pores (though doesn't make them disappear - but what can?), reduces redness, and sets matte. Really helps my makeup stay on for the full day.

Looking forward to finding a whole bunch more stuff to love in May!

Birthday Haul

It was my 22nd birthday last Saturday, and to celebrate I went into the city with some friends and bought myself a few presents. I hadn't been to Zara and Topshop in so long - for those who don't know, Sydney only has one Topshop and two Zara's and they're both pretty far away from where I live, so I rarely get to visit.

I bought some things that I desperately needed (black bag and flats), and other things were more like rewards for turning old!

Zara:

Navy Velour Ballet Flats with Ankle Strap - $45.95

Black Shoulder Bag with Chain Strap - $59.95
